As You Like It is a pastoral comedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written around 1599 and first published in the 1623 First Folio. Shakespeare based the story on Rosalynde, a 1590 prose romance by Thomas Lodge.

About As You Like It
The play follows Rosalind, who flees persecution at her uncle's court with her cousin Celia and takes refuge in the Forest of Arden, where she falls in love with Orlando. Its characters include the melancholy courtier Jaques, whose "All the world's a stage" speech is among Shakespeare's best-known passages. The play is generally counted among Shakespeare's mature comedies.
