About Malta
Malta packs an outsized amount of history into a Mediterranean archipelago small enough to cross by bus in an hour: Baroque Valletta, prehistoric temples older than Stonehenge, and fortifications left by Phoenicians, Knights of St John and the British in turn. The vibe is sun-bleached and unhurried, with limestone towns tumbling down to turquoise coves and dive sites in wrecks and caves. English is an official language, which makes it an easy, low-friction destination for a short or long stay. Go for the history and the diving, stay for the honey-coloured light on old stone.

Discover Malta
Malta is a compact Mediterranean archipelago where 7,000 years of history sit beside some of the clearest swimming water in Europe. Everything is close: Valletta’s baroque streets, the silent old capital of Mdina, and the laid-back sister island of Gozo are all a short hop apart, and English is an official language.
The islands are made for swimming, diving and coastal walks rather than mountains — the terrain is low and rocky. Sliema and St Julian’s are the modern hubs for dining and nightlife, Marsaxlokk is the classic fishing-village day out, and Gozo and tiny Comino (the Blue Lagoon) deliver the postcard beaches.
Top places in Malta
- Valletta — The fortified baroque capital — St John’s Co-Cathedral, harbour views and UNESCO streets.
- Mdina — The walled “silent city”, the medieval former capital, best at golden hour.
- Gozo & the Blue Lagoon (Comino) — Rural sister island plus Comino’s turquoise lagoon — Malta’s best swimming.
- Sliema & St Julian’s — Seafront promenades, shopping and the heart of the dining-and-nightlife scene.
- Marsaxlokk — Colourful luzzu fishing boats and a Sunday fish market — the classic village day trip.
