Bartees Strange
Bartees Strange, born Bartees Leon Cox Jr. in 1989 in Ipswich, England, is an American indie rock musician raised in Mustang, Oklahoma and now based in Baltimore, Maryland. His music draws on hip-hop, jazz, and folk alongside indie rock, resulting in a sound that resists easy categorization. Before pursuing music full-time, he worked as director of communications for an environmental nonprofit in Washington, D.C., while playing guitar in the post-hardcore band Stay Inside.

About Bartees Strange
Strange released the acoustic EP Magic Boy in 2017 before drawing wider attention in 2020 with Say Goodbye to Pretty Boy, an EP of National covers, and his debut full-length Live Forever. His second album, Farm to Table (2022), earned wide critical acclaim for its genre-spanning songwriting, and he followed it with Horror in 2025.
Between album cycles Strange toured extensively as a support act for Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Boygenius, building a reputation as an unpredictable live performer who moves between rap cadences, hardcore intensity, and folk balladry within a single set. He has also worked as a producer and frequent collaborator with other artists in the indie rock scene.
