Chance the Rapper, born Chancelor Jonathan Bennett on April 16, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American rapper and singer who rose to prominence in the early 2010s as an independent artist, releasing music through free digital downloads and streaming rather than signing to a major label.

About Chance The Rapper

His debut mixtape 10 Day (2012) was followed by the breakthrough Acid Rap (2013) and Coloring Book (2016), which won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2017, the first streaming-only release to do so. His music blends jazz-inflected production, gospel influences and Christian themes. His debut studio album, The Big Day, followed in 2019, and a second album, Star Line, was released in 2025.

He has won three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, and has performed at festivals including Lollapalooza. Outside music he co-founded the nonprofit SocialWorks in 2016, donated $1 million to Chicago Public Schools, and has been active in gun-violence prevention and youth education initiatives in his home city.

Recent activity includes coaching on The Voice (season 25, 2024) and touring behind Star Line and the tenth anniversary of Coloring Book.
