Metric
Metric are a Canadian indie rock band formed in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, by Emily Haines and James Shaw, initially performing under the name Mainstream before settling on Metric. The band's music blends indie rock with new wave, post-punk revival, and synth-pop, built around Haines's vocals and keyboards and Shaw's guitar work.

About Metric
The current lineup adds bassist Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key. Their albums include Fantasies (2009), which went gold and sold more than 500,000 copies, Synthetica (2012), Art of Doubt (2018), and Formentera (2022), featuring songs such as "Help I'm Alive," "Gimme Sympathy," and "Combat Baby."
Metric has won multiple Juno Awards, including Group of the Year and Alternative Album of the Year in 2010, and in 2023 Rolling Stone ranked the band 41st among the greatest Canadian artists of all time. The group has collaborated with Lou Reed, contributed music to film soundtracks, and released material through its own independent label while continuing to tour as a festival-level act.
