Midnight Generation
Midnight Generation is a five-piece funk and electronic band from Chihuahua, Mexico, founded roughly a decade ago by Fernando Mares. The current lineup, including Luis Carlos "Bica" Valderrama, Carlos Amaya, Samuel Marquez, and Diego Bustillos, came together about five years after Mares began the project, drawing inspiration from disco and funk forebears such as the Bee Gees, Prince, and Chic.

About Midnight Generation
The band's sound blends disco, synth-pop, funk, and indie electronic music into shimmering, danceable grooves built around synthesizers, talkbox melodies, and heavy basslines. Its album Tender Love centers on themes of connection and celebration, and the group has collaborated with artists including Zimmer90 and Chromeo, expanding its profile within the international funk scene.
What started as studio jam sessions in Mexican basements went viral in 2024, propelling Midnight Generation onto a lengthy world tour and festival stages including Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, and the Montreux Jazz Festival. Live performances lean heavily on improvisation, with each member taking individual solos during shows.
The band recorded "Tan Cerca," its only Spanish-language track, as a tribute after the passing of Samuel Marquez's mother, adding a personal note to a catalogue otherwise built around English-language funk and dance material.
