The Enormous Crocodile

The Enormous Crocodile is a stage musical adapted from Roald Dahl's 1978 picture book of the same name, illustrated in its original edition by Quentin Blake. Dahl's story follows a hungry crocodile who devises a series of disguises and tricks in an attempt to eat children, only to be foiled at every turn by the other animals, ending when an elephant flings him into the sun.

About The Enormous Crocodile

The musical adaptation was developed and directed by Emily Lim, with music by Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab and a book and lyrics by Suhayla El-Bushra, plus additional music and lyrics by Tom Brady, and puppetry designed by co-director Toby Olié. It was co-produced by the Roald Dahl Story Company alongside Leeds Playhouse and Regent's Park Open Air Theatre.

The production premiered at Leeds Playhouse over the 2023-24 winter season before transferring to Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in London for summer runs in 2024 and 2025. It subsequently toured to the United States, playing the Children's Theatre Company in Minneapolis in autumn 2025 and the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles from December 2025 into January 2026, staying close to the book's plot while adding songs, puppetry and audience interaction aimed at family audiences.
