Theatre of Hate
Theatre of Hate are a British post-punk band formed in London in 1980 by singer-guitarist Kirk Brandon, previously of the band the Pack. The original lineup also included bassist Stan Stammers, saxophonist John "Boy" Lennard, guitarist Steve Guthrie and drummer Luke Rendle. The band's name was drawn from Antonin Artaud's concept of the "Theatre of Cruelty."

About Theatre of Hate
The group built a reputation as a live act before releasing its debut single, "Original Sin," in November 1980, which reached number five on the UK Independent Singles Chart. Its first studio album, Westworld, was produced by Mick Jones of the Clash and released in February 1982, reaching number 17 on the UK Albums Chart and spawning the band's sole Top 40 single, "Do You Believe in the Westworld."
Theatre of Hate split later in 1982, with Brandon and Stammers going on to front Spear of Destiny, while former members Nigel Preston and Billy Duffy later joined the Cult. The band has reformed periodically since, including for a 1991 tour, a 2007 25th-anniversary run for Westworld, and 30th-anniversary shows in 2012.
Brandon has continued to lead the band through subsequent studio albums, including Kinshi (2016), Black Irony (2017) and Utsukushi-sa (2020), and Theatre of Hate remains an active touring act.
