Automne de la Science 2026: Atelier Océan

This hands-on workshop invites children aged 8–12 to explore the fascinating process of ocean formation. Led by Jean-Arthur Olive, a geodynamicist specializing in brittle deformation of the Earth's crust at the Laboratoire de géologie de l’École Normale Supérieure, the session combines science and creativity.

Participants will learn how to "make an ocean" by moving continents, adding water, triggering volcanic eruptions, and waiting millions of years. The workshop also covers how scientists study ocean floors using research vessels and yellow submarines, offering a unique glimpse into Earth's dynamic systems.

Part of the Automne de la Science series in Paris libraries, this event is designed to inspire young minds through interactive learning. It is held in partnership with the ENS and its family-oriented cycle "Petites exploratrices, petits explorateurs de la connaissance" (PE²C).
