Blur, created by Craig Quintero and Phoebe Greenberg, is an immersive mixed-reality performance that blurs the line between dream and augmented reality. Drawing on biotechnology and surrealist imagery, this international co-production explores a future where cloning challenges our understanding of life and death. The 50-minute journey invites audiences into a world where resurrection biology and cloning erase the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, posing the ethical question: what would you do if you could conquer death?
Inspired by the Theatre of the Absurd, the piece unfolds as a dreamlike landscape populated by hybrid creatures, such as Dolly, a half-human, half-animal figure embodying the gray areas of genetic engineering. Using volumetric motion capture and augmented reality, the raw emotions of the performers merge with virtual environments, creating a haunting dialogue between the living and the dead. This production is a collaboration between PHI Studio (Montreal), Riverbed Theatre (Taipei), and Onassis Culture (Athens), and was acclaimed at the Venice Film Festival.
More than a performance, Blur is a meditation on grief, identity, and what makes us human in the face of scientific progress. Recommended for audiences aged 16 and up, it offers a dense and captivating experience that pushes the boundaries of live theater through cutting-edge digital technology.
