Step into the bus of Rosa Parks in this interactive performance that brings the struggle for civil rights to life. Audience members are invited to touch objects linked to the history and memory of the fight against segregation: Rosa Parks' umbrella, Martin Luther King's hat, James Baldwin's jacket, and the dress of a soul singer—Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, or Nina Simone. Touching these items triggers sounds from the past, fragments of the lives of these iconic figures.
Presented by Compagnie Le Makila in partnership with Plateau Urbain and the Mairie du X°, this event blends dance, song, and theater into a living memory experience. The performance is part of the Journées du Matrimoine, celebrating feminist heritage. It draws on excerpts from the project Rosa 08'46, which explores anti-racist memories from Rosa Parks' actions in the 1950s to the assassination of George Floyd in 2020.
