What actually happens

Visitors gather at the Petra Visitor Centre gate before 20:30 — phone torches and flash photography are asked to stay off for the walk itself, since the point is the candlelight. The walk into the Siq takes roughly 20–25 minutes in near-total silence, opening onto the Treasury lit entirely by the candles laid out across the plaza in front of it. Bedouin musicians perform and mint tea is served for around half an hour before the walk back out.

There is no transport back to hotels laid on as part of the ticket — it is the same walk in reverse, so wear shoes you are happy to walk 2km in twice.

Is it worth it?

Reviews are genuinely mixed, and it is worth setting expectations honestly: the Treasury by candlelight is a real, striking sight, but the walk can feel crowded in high season, phone photography of the facade itself comes out poorly without a tripod and long exposure, and the music-and-tea portion is brief relative to the walk either side of it. Go for the walk and the setting, not expecting a long performance.

The official Visit Petra site lists Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 20:30–22:30. Some third-party guides describe a shorter Monday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule — confirm the exact nights for your travel dates before planning around it, since the schedule can shift seasonally.

Do I need a separate ticket from the daytime Petra ticket?
