Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady in Mġarr

The Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady comes to Mġarr on Saturday 22 August, bringing the small town into full festive mode. The day opens with a religious procession carrying the saint's statue through decorated streets, accompanied by a local brass band.

Street stalls sell traditional pastries as the afternoon builds, and children play between them while crowds gather to watch the procession pass. As evening turns to night, fireworks — ground-level petards and aerial displays — light up the sky over Mġarr, closing out the feast in the pattern common to Malta's village festas.
