The Igreja do Menino Deus, commissioned by King João V to house a revered and reportedly miraculous image of the Child God, offers guided visits by appointment. Construction began in 1711 under royal architect João Antunes and was later continued by Frederico Ludovice in 1736.
Inside, the octagonal church dazzles with polychrome marble, particularly in the main chapel's altarpiece, along with gilded woodwork and paintings by Vieira Lusitano, André Rubira, and André Gonçalves. The nave ceiling features a trompe-l'oeil painting, and statuary by João António Bellini de Pádua completes the artistic ensemble.
The main facade, never finished at the top, boasts a majestic portal with Corinthian columns. These guided tours provide a rare opportunity to explore a masterpiece of Portuguese Baroque architecture and its rich artistic heritage.
