The Wizard of Oz at Sphere

The Wizard of Oz at Sphere brings the classic 1939 film to life through an immersive 4D experience. Using the venue's massive 160,000-square-foot 16K video screen and AI-enhanced visuals, the film expands beyond its original frame. Multi-sensory effects—including wind, fog, falling leaves, apples, snow, pyrotechnics, and life-size flying monkeys using drone technology—plunge viewers directly into the story. The score has been re-recorded with an 80-piece orchestra, preserving Herbert Stothart’s original compositions.

The experience begins in the atrium, designed to resemble sepia-toned Kansas, with replicas of Professor Marvel’s cart and the Wizard’s hot air balloon, plus displays of original Oz books and ruby slippers. Guests enter the auditorium 45 minutes before showtime to soak in the atmosphere. After the film, the atrium transforms into a Technicolor Emerald City, where a life-sized replica of the Wizard’s throne room allows for interaction with his projected green head. This reimagining offers a fresh perspective on a beloved classic.
