About Cyprus
Cyprus packs Greek and Turkish influences, Roman mosaics and Crusader castles onto a compact Mediterranean island with over 300 days of sunshine a year. Paphos's UNESCO-listed ruins, the diveable Zenobia shipwreck off Larnaca and the cool pine forests of the Troodos mountains sit within an hour or two of each other, while Nicosia remains the last divided capital in Europe, split by a UN buffer zone since 1974. It suits both lazy beach-and-resort holidays around Ayia Napa and Protaras and slower trips through hillside wine villages and monasteries. Honest caveat: the north (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) is only recognised by Turkey, and crossing the Green Line requires a passport check.
