6LACK, pronounced "black," is the stage name of Ricardo Valdez Valentine Jr., an American singer and rapper born June 24, 1992, in Baltimore, Maryland, who relocated with his family to Atlanta, Georgia, in the late 1990s. He worked as a battle rapper in his teens before teaching himself to sing, drawing on influences such as Sade, Usher, and T-Pain, and later joined the Atlanta-Baltimore music collective Spillage Village, founded by EarthGang and JID.

About 6LACK
His debut album, "Free 6lack" (2016), was led by the platinum single "Prblms" and established his blend of alternative R&B, trap, and soul. The follow-up, "East Atlanta Love Letter" (2018), peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 and featured guest appearances from Future, J. Cole, Offset, and Khalid; the double-platinum single "OTW," with Khalid and Ty Dolla Sign, became one of his signature releases.
6LACK has built a reputation for introspective, melodic songwriting delivered in a low-key vocal style that blurs the line between rapping and singing. His 2021 collaboration with Lil Tjay, "Calling My Phone," became his highest-charting single, reaching number three on the Hot 100 and topping the Canadian charts, while a feature on Normani's "Waves" earned him an MTV Video Music Award.
His most recent studio album, "Since I Have a Lover" (2023), earned a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. He has continued to release music through Interscope Records and has appeared as a guest artist on releases including Gorillaz's "The Pink Phantom" alongside Elton John.
