ABC is an English pop band formed in Sheffield in 1980, evolving from the synth group Vice Versa after singer Martin Fry joined and took over as frontman.

About ABC
The classic lineup, comprising Fry, Mark White, Stephen Singleton and David Palmer, released the debut album The Lexicon of Love in 1982, which topped the UK Albums Chart and produced the hit singles "Poison Arrow," "All of My Heart" and "The Look of Love." The band scored ten UK and five US top 40 singles between 1981 and 1990, including "Tears Are Not Enough," "When Smokey Sings" and "Be Near Me," and reached number one on the US Dance Club Songs chart three times. The Lexicon of Love was later ranked among the best British albums by both The Observer Music Monthly and Q magazine.
Subsequent albums Beauty Stab (1983), How to Be a Zillionaire! (1985) and Alphabet City (1987) shifted the group's sound, while Singleton left in 1984 and White in 1992, leaving Fry as the sole constant member fronting rotating collaborators through the following decades.
Fry reunited with orchestrator Anne Dudley in 2009 to perform The Lexicon of Love with a full orchestra, which led him to record a proper sequel; The Lexicon of Love II, released in 2016, reached number five on the UK Albums Chart, ABC's first top-10 album in 26 years. The band remains active as a touring act, including a co-headline run with Howard Jones through 2025.
