About American Aquarium
After debut releases Antique Hearts in 2006 and The Bible and the Bottle in 2008, the band built a following through relentless touring, performing roughly 250 shows a year and developing a gritty, confessional Southern rock sound that critics often compared to Whiskeytown and the Drive-By Truckers. Their 2012 album Burn. Flicker. Die., produced by Jason Isbell, marked a critical breakthrough and earned an Americana/Roots Album nomination at the Lone Star Music Awards, reviving a band Barham had originally intended to end.
The group's line-up changed significantly over the years, with substantial turnover among members between 2017 and 2019 before the current line-up was established around 2020. Barham has remained the band's sole constant member and primary songwriter throughout.
Recent albums include Lamentations in 2020, Chicamacomico in 2022 and The Fear of Standing Still in 2024, the last two produced by Shooter Jennings, continuing the band's evolution from a touring bar act into an established Americana act.
