Arch Enemy are a Swedish melodic death metal band from Halmstad, formed in 1995 by guitarist Michael Amott and vocalist Johan Liiva, both previously of the death metal band Carnage. The band's sound moved from a more traditional death metal base on early releases toward increasingly melodic songwriting on later albums.

About Arch Enemy

Liiva was replaced by Angela Gossow in 2000, who fronted the band for fourteen years and helped define its sound before stepping back from touring vocals in 2014; she was succeeded by Alissa White-Gluz, who remained the singer for over a decade. Guitarist Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson have anchored the lineup throughout, alongside longtime bassist Sharlee D'Angelo and guitarist Joey Concepcion.

The band has released twelve studio albums, including Black Earth (1996), Wages of Sin (2001), Rise of the Tyrant (2007), and War Eternal (2014), the latter marking White-Gluz's studio debut with the group. White-Gluz departed at the end of 2025, with vocalist Lauren Hart joining in February 2026.

Arch Enemy have toured extensively worldwide since their formation and are regular performers at major metal festivals, including Wacken Open Air, built around the band's technically intricate dual-guitar arrangements and alternating growled and melodic vocal delivery.
