Balance & Composure
Balance and Composure are an American band formed in fall 2007 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, emerging from the breakups of the local groups Erection Kids and Scenic State. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Jon Simmons, the group also includes guitarist Andy Slaymaker, guitarist Erik Petersen, bassist Matt Warner and drummer Dennis Wilson. Their sound blends emo, post-hardcore and alternative rock with the moodier textures of 1990s grunge, drawing on influences such as Sunny Day Real Estate and Nirvana.

About Balance & Composure
The band's catalogue includes the albums Separation (2011), The Things We Think We're Missing (2013), which reached number 51 on the Billboard 200, and Light We Made (2016). Balance and Composure have been credited as one of the founding acts of the so-called fourth wave of emo and as early architects of the soft grunge sound that several later bands adopted.
The band split up in 2019 after more than a decade together, with drummer Bailey Van Ellis departing ahead of their final tour. They reunited in April 2023 and returned to writing and performing, releasing the album With You in Spirit in 2024 and continuing to draw on newer touchpoints such as Radiohead and Travis Scott alongside their original influences.
