Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, competing in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League. The franchise was established in 1972 as the Atlanta Flames, one of two NHL expansion teams added that year alongside the New York Islanders, and reached the playoffs in six of its eight seasons in Atlanta despite never winning a playoff series there.

About Calgary Flames
Facing declining attendance and limited arena revenue, owner Tom Cousins sold the franchise in 1980 to a Canadian ownership group led by brothers Daryl and Byron Seaman together with Nelson Skalbania, for a then-record $16 million, and the team relocated to Calgary for the 1980–81 season.
The Flames won their only Stanley Cup championship in 1989, defeating the Montreal Canadiens in six games, after also reaching the Final in 1986. The club has won three conference championships, two Presidents' Trophies for the league's best regular-season record, in 1988 and 1989, and eight division titles over its history. Calgary's rivalry with the Edmonton Oilers, the only other NHL franchise in Alberta, became known as the Battle of Alberta, and a roster led by captain Jarome Iginla carried the team to its most recent Stanley Cup Final appearance, in 2004.
The Flames have gone through significant roster turnover in recent seasons, including the departures of longtime players Johnny Gaudreau in 2022 and Matthew Tkachuk in 2023, and missed the playoffs in each season from 2022–23 through 2024–25 as the franchise works through a rebuilding period.
