About Chicane
He trained in classical guitar and piano as a child, drawing influence from composers such as Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis alongside synth-pop pioneer Vince Clarke. Active as a recording artist since 1994, he initially self-released music through his own Modena Records label before partnering with Armada Music for worldwide distribution in 2012.
His singles "Offshore" (1996) and "Saltwater" (1999, featuring Máire Brennan) reached the UK top twenty, while "Don't Give Up," a collaboration with Bryan Adams, debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart and became his biggest hit. "Stoned in Love" (2006) featured Tom Jones.
His debut album, Far from the Maddening Crowds (1997), remains regarded as a seminal record within the trance scene, and Behind the Sun (2000) was certified gold in the UK. Later albums include Giants (2010), Thousand Mile Stare (2012), The Sum of Its Parts (2015) and Everything We Had to Leave Behind (2021), with work spanning trance, house, Balearic beat and ambient styles.
