About Churchill Downs September Racing

Marketed at its debut as the "Homecoming Meet," the inaugural September program ran for twelve days from September 6 to 29, racing on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule across four weeks and featuring eight stakes races with combined purses of nearly $1 million. The meet includes "Downs After Dark" evening racing programs and, in later years, "Twilight Thursdays" fan events alongside the regular daytime racing card.

Since its 2013 launch, the September Meet has grown into an established fixture on the Churchill Downs calendar, held between the track's larger Spring and Fall meets and continuing to combine thoroughbred stakes racing with themed fan entertainment.

Churchill Downs now stages the September Meet annually as a recurring multi-week racing program at the historic Louisville track.
