About Citizen
The band's sound draws on emo, post-hardcore, alternative rock, and shoegaze, described by AllMusic as combining "bombastic emo pop, post-hardcore, and thick, chunky indie rock." Their discography includes the albums Youth (2013), Everybody Is Going to Heaven (2015), As You Please (2017), Life in Your Glass World (2021), and Calling the Dogs (2023), released on Run for Cover Records.
Over five albums the band's sound has broadened from raw, heavier post-hardcore on its early releases toward more melodic, dynamically varied songwriting, a progression that has placed them among the more consistently reviewed acts to emerge from the emo revival scene.
The current lineup is Mat Kerekes (lead vocals), Nick Hamm (lead guitar), Eric Hamm (bass), Mason Mercer (rhythm guitar), and Ben Russin (drums). A sixth studio album, Halcyon Blues, is set for release on August 7, 2026, and the band has world tour dates scheduled through March 2027.
