Cyrano de Bergerac
Cyrano de Bergerac is a verse play by the French dramatist Edmond Rostand, first performed on 28 December 1897 at the Theatre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris, with Benoit-Constant Coquelin in the title role. Written in rhyming twelve-syllable couplets, it is loosely based on the life of the 17th-century writer and duelist Cyrano de Bergerac.

About Cyrano de Bergerac
Set in France in 1640, the play follows Cyrano, a gifted swordsman and poet who believes his unusually large nose makes him unlovable. He secretly writes love letters and speeches for his inarticulate friend Christian to help him win the affections of Roxane, whom Cyrano also loves. The play was an immediate popular success and has since been adapted many times for film and stage, including a 1950 English-language film for which Jose Ferrer won the Academy Award for Best Actor, and a 1990 French film starring Gerard Depardieu.
