Dinosaur Jr.
Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984 by guitarist and vocalist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow, and drummer Murph, all previously members of the hardcore punk band Deep Wound. Categorized as alternative rock, indie rock, and noise rock, the trio built a sound that paired classic rock songwriting with heavy use of feedback and distortion, restoring prominent lead guitar to a genre that had largely set it aside.

About Dinosaur Jr.
The band's second and third albums, You're Living All Over Me (1987) and Bug (1988), established its reputation on the American underground circuit, with Bug reaching number one on the UK independent chart. Where You Been (1993) brought the group its first UK top-ten placement. Mascis, Barlow, and Murph split in the mid-1990s, with Mascis continuing to record as Dinosaur Jr. with other musicians before the original lineup split acrimoniously in 1997.
The three reunited in 2005 and have released a series of albums since, including Beyond (2007), Farm (2009) — the band's highest-charting US release at number 29 on the Billboard 200 — and Sweep It Into Space (2021). Critics have credited Dinosaur Jr. with influencing a generation of alternative rock musicians, including members of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and Radiohead, through its combination of melodic songwriting and abrasive guitar tone.
