Foster the People are an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles in 2009 by singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Foster, a former commercial jingle writer, together with drummer Mark Pontius. The band's current lineup pairs Foster with multi-instrumentalist Isom Innis.

About Foster the People
The group's sound combines indie pop with synth-pop, dance-pop, alternative rock, and psychedelic influences. Its debut album, Torches (2011), produced the breakout single Pumped Up Kicks, which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the most-streamed alternative singles of its era. Foster the People have since received multiple Grammy Award nominations.
Follow-up albums Supermodel (2014) and Sacred Hearts Club (2017) expanded the band's sound, while the single Sit Next to Me became a long-running streaming success, surpassing 200 million plays on Spotify after peaking at number 42 on the Hot 100. Bassist Jacob Cubbie Fink departed in 2015, and Pontius left the band in 2021 after more than a decade as drummer.
After an extended hiatus following the pandemic, Foster the People returned in August 2024 with their fourth studio album, Paradise State of Mind, which received largely positive reviews and extended the band's run beyond its early-2010s breakthrough.
