Grand Rapids Ballet
Grand Rapids Ballet is a professional dance company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the only professional ballet company in the state. About Grand Rapids Ballet
The company achieved regional status in the 1990s, placing professional dancers under contract for the first time, and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022. It has received ArtServe Michigan Governor's Awards for Arts & Culture and, under artistic director James Sofranko since 2018, has drawn dancers and choreographers of wider national and international standing.
A season at Grand Rapids Ballet typically mixes full-length classical works with contemporary choreography, presented at its own Peter Martin Wege Theatre inside the Meijer-Royce Center for Dance, a renovated former bus garage, as well as at DeVos Performance Hall and other Michigan venues, totaling more than 50 performances a year.
The organization's affiliated school enrolls more than 270 students directly and reaches over 1,500 more through free community programs, alongside a professional company of roughly 20 dancers plus apprentices and trainees.
