Leming was born March 26, 1989, in Morristown, Tennessee, and works across folk, country, and alternative styles. He first gained national attention as a contestant on the seventh season of American Idol, where he became notable for not advancing to the show's Top 24 despite later landing a major-label record deal, a distinction unique among the show's contestants.

Performing as Josiah and the Bonnevilles, Leming has released albums including Endurance (2023) and Country Covers II (2024), the latter featuring collaborations with established country artists. His music draws on both singer-songwriter folk traditions and mainstream country influences.

The project's profile grew substantially through social media, which fed a sold-out three-night run in Nashville in November 2023 and a subsequent North American tour.
