Laura Pauline Veirs is an American singer-songwriter born October 24, 1973, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, now based in Portland, Oregon, where she has become a significant figure in the contemporary folk scene. Working in folk and alternative country traditions, she is known for literary-inspired lyrics and an approach she has described as personal without being overly confessional.

About Laura Veirs

Veirs graduated from Carleton College in 1997 with a degree in geology and studies in Mandarin Chinese, playing in the punk band Rair Kx! during college and later working as a translator on geological expeditions in China. Active as a recording artist since 1999, her albums include Year of Meteors (2005), a New York Times critic's choice; July Flame (2010); and the concept album The Lookout (2018).

In 2016 she released case/lang/veirs, a collaborative album with Neko Case and k.d. lang that drew wide critical acclaim. She continues to record and perform, with a new album, Temple Songs, scheduled for August 2026.
