About Minus the Bear
The group built a sound centered on intricate, technically demanding guitar interplay layered with electronic textures, drawing on indie rock, math rock, and progressive rock. Their catalog includes six studio albums: Highly Refined Pirates (2002), Menos el Oso (2005), Planet of Ice (2007), Omni (2010), Infinity Overhead (2012), and Voids (2017). The longtime lineup has featured Jake Snider on vocals and guitar, Dave Knudson on lead guitar, Cory Murchy on bass, Alex Rose on keyboards, and Joshua Sparks on drums.
Minus the Bear announced their disbandment in July 2018 and completed a farewell tour that December. The band reunited in 2025, announcing a tour for that October and November built around performances of Menos el Oso in its entirety, marking the twentieth anniversary of the album.
