About Nick Heyward

As Haircut One Hundred's lead singer and primary songwriter, Heyward helped the band score four UK top-10 singles in 1981-1982, including "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)," "Love Plus One," "Fantastic Day," and "Nobody's Fool," while the band's debut album Pelican West reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart. He left the group in January 1983, citing stress and depression brought on by a year of constant work.

Heyward immediately launched a solo career, reaching number 13 on the UK Singles Chart with "Whistle Down the Wind" and following it with the Top 20 hits "Take That Situation" and "Blue Hat for a Blue Day"; his debut solo album, North of a Miracle, reached number 10. He continued recording into the 1990s and 2000s, including the single "Kite" (1993), which reached number 4 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Heyward has periodically reunited with Haircut One Hundred, including live performances in the 2010s and 2020s, and in 2017 released the album Woodland Echoes with his son Oliver. Haircut One Hundred announced their first new album in more than 40 years, Boxing the Compass, in 2025.
