Ocean Colour Scene are an English rock band formed in 1989 in Moseley, Birmingham, out of the merger of two local groups, the Boys (with guitarist Steve Cradock) and the Fanatics (with singer Simon Fowler, bassist Damon Minchella and drummer Oscar Harrison). The band's mod-influenced, 1960s-rooted sound blends rock, soul and blues rock.

About Ocean Colour Scene

The band's commercial breakthrough came with its second album, Moseley Shoals (1996), which reached number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and produced hits including "The Riverboat Song" and "The Day We Caught the Train." Its follow-up, Marchin' Already (1997), went to number 1, displacing Oasis's Be Here Now, while One from the Modern (1999) peaked at number 4. Across its career the band has placed five albums in the UK Top 10 and seventeen singles in the Top 40.

Ocean Colour Scene rose to prominence during the mid-1990s Britpop era after Noel Gallagher invited them to support Oasis on tour in 1995, and the band went on to perform at Oasis's landmark Knebworth House concerts in 1996, played to a combined audience of more than 250,000. Guitarist Steve Cradock became a longstanding collaborator of Paul Weller, and singer Simon Fowler took part in the 1998 football-themed supergroup single "How Does It Feel Today" by England United.

The band, with current members Fowler, Cradock, Harrison and bassist Raymond Meade (who joined in 2016), remains active, continuing to record and tour, with career-spanning box-set reissues released in 2023.
