Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost is a British gothic metal band formed in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Its lineup has remained largely stable, built around singer Nick Holmes, guitarist and keyboardist Gregor Mackintosh, rhythm guitarist Aaron Aedy and bassist Stephen Edmondson, with drummers changing more frequently over the decades.

About Paradise Lost
Paradise Lost helped pioneer the death-doom metal style in the early 1990s, and its 1991 album "Gothic" became a genre-defining record for gothic metal as a whole. The band's commercial peak came with "Draconian Times" (1995), a UK and German top-20 hit, followed by "One Second" (1997), a top-ten hit in Germany, Sweden and Finland, and "Host" (1999), which reached number 4 in Germany. The band has sold more than two million albums worldwide.
Between 1997 and 2002, Paradise Lost moved from metal toward synth-pop and electronic textures before returning to heavier material, a shift that made the band's catalogue notably varied. The band's sound, and the "Gothic" album in particular, went on to influence later acts including My Dying Bride, Anathema, Cradle of Filth and Katatonia, among others.
The band's more recent albums, "The Plague Within" (2015) and "Medusa" (2017), returned to a heavier, doom-influenced sound. Following 2020's "Obsidian," Paradise Lost released "Ascension" in September 2025 through Nuclear Blast Records, its seventeenth studio album, met with positive reviews from AllMusic and Metal Hammer. The band continues to perform with its four founding members, Holmes, Mackintosh, Aedy and Edmondson, at its core.
