About Phil Ellis

Ellis has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe annually since 2013, developing a reputation for absurdist material and knowingly fabricated stories about his own life. His show Funz and Gamez won the Edinburgh Comedy Awards Panel Prize in 2014, and later shows, including Phil Ellis's Excellent Comedy Show (2023) and Soppy Stern (2025), won the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality.

On television, Ellis has appeared on Taskmaster, Drunk History, Roast Battle, and The Russell Howard Hour, and wrote and starred in the BBC Radio 4 series Phil Ellis Is Trying, which ran for three series between 2018 and 2020 following a man attempting, and failing, to make a success of his life.

He won Best Compere at the 2025 Chortle Awards and announced a UK tour, Bath Mat, launching in December 2025.
