About Real Salt Lake

The club won the MLS Cup in 2009, defeating the LA Galaxy on penalties, and reached the final again in 2013, losing to Sporting Kansas City. It also won the 2013 Western Conference title and was runner-up in the 2013 US Open Cup. In the 2010–11 CONCACAF Champions League, Real Salt Lake reached the final, becoming the first American club to do so under the tournament's group-stage format.

The team played its early seasons at the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium before moving in 2008 to its own soccer-specific stadium, now known as America First Field, which seats just over 20,000 in Sandy, part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Its longtime players honored in the club's Ring of Honor include forward Jason Kreis, midfielder Javier Morales and goalkeeper Nick Rimando, while its longest-running rivalry, for the Rocky Mountain Cup, is with the Colorado Rapids.

Ownership passed from Checketts to Dell Loy Hansen in 2013, then briefly to the league itself in 2021 before a group led by Ryan Smith and David Blitzer took over in 2022. In April 2025, Miller Sports + Entertainment acquired controlling interest in the club.
