About San Diego FC
San Diego had sought Major League Soccer representation since the mid-1990s, with earlier efforts including the failed SoccerCity stadium proposal of 2018 stalling for lack of a soccer-specific venue. The Sycuan Tribe began pursuing sports investment in 2020 and partnered with Mansour in late 2022, and the resulting bid ultimately prevailed over a competing effort from Las Vegas for the league's expansion slot.
The club's inaugural 2025 season proved unusually successful for an expansion side: San Diego FC finished first in the Western Conference regular season with 63 points, a record for an MLS expansion team, and advanced to the Western Conference finals.
