She studied communications at the University of California, Los Angeles, performing in local venues after graduating before self-releasing her debut album, "Careful Confessions," in 2004; the record caught the attention of Epic Records, which signed her the following year.

About Sara Bareilles

Her major-label debut, "Little Voice" (2007), produced the single "Love Song," which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100, sold several million copies, and earned two Grammy Award nominations, including Song of the Year. She followed with albums such as "Kaleidoscope Heart," "The Blessed Unrest" (home to the single "Brave"), and "Amidst the Chaos," building a catalog of piano-driven pop with elements of soul, and has won two competitive Grammy Awards across her career.

In 2015, Bareilles composed the music and lyrics for the Broadway musical "Waitress," adapted from the 2007 film, earning Tony and Grammy nominations for Best Original Score; she later took on the production's lead role herself and released a companion studio album, "What's Inside." The show marked a broader move into theatre alongside her recording career.

More recently, Bareilles starred in Apple TV+'s musical comedy series "Little Voice" (2020) and played Dawn Solano on the comedy "Girls5eva" (2021-2024), while returning to Broadway as the Baker's Wife in a 2022 revival of "Into the Woods."
