Switchfoot is an American alternative rock band formed in San Diego, California, in 1996 by brothers Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar) and Tim Foreman (bass) alongside drummer Chad Butler, initially performing as Chin Up. The band adopted the Switchfoot name after being signed by producer Charlie Peacock to his label, Re:think Records, and the lineup later expanded to include Jerome Fontamillas on keyboards and guitar.

About SWITCHFOOT

The band's fourth album, The Beautiful Letdown (2003), was its major-label breakthrough, selling more than three million copies and producing the singles "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move," which crossed over from Christian to mainstream rock radio. Later albums Nothing Is Sound (2005) and Hello Hurricane (2009) continued the band's commercial run; Hello Hurricane won the Grammy Award for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album in 2011.

Switchfoot's music blends elements of post-grunge, power pop and synth rock with lyrics that frequently address faith and spirituality without being confined to the contemporary Christian music market. The band has released thirteen studio albums and won eleven GMA Dove Awards.

Guitarist Drew Shirley departed in 2022. As of 2026 the band's lineup is Jon Foreman, Tim Foreman, Chad Butler, Jerome Fontamillas and Boaz Roberts, and the group announced a new album, Forever Now, in March 2026.
