The Comedy Store London
The Comedy Store is a stand-up comedy venue in London's West End, opened on 19 May 1979 by insurance salesman Peter Rosengard and comedian Don Ward in a former strip-club space in Soho. Its Gong Show-style open-mic format, in which audiences could heckle acts off stage, made it the first permanent home for stand-up comedy in Britain.

About The Comedy Store London
The club became the centre of the early-1980s alternative comedy movement, launching the careers of performers including Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, French and Saunders, Alexei Sayle and Paul Merton. It later relocated to Leicester Square and, in 1993, to its current premises on Oxendon Street. Its resident improvisation troupe, the Comedy Store Players, formed in 1985 and became known through Whose Line Is It Anyway?
