The Former Moscow Ballet
The Former Moscow Ballet is the touring name now used for a North American holiday-season ballet production previously marketed as Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker. The company grew out of a 1989-92 Glasnost Festival organized by producer Akiva Talmi and has toured the United States and Canada annually since 1993 under Talmi Entertainment.

About The Former Moscow Ballet
The production's signature work is a staging of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker performed to the complete score, distinguished by a second act in which characters travel to a Land of Peace and Harmony rather than the Sugar Plum Fairy's kingdom, a change intended to emphasize cultural unity. Each tour features 70 to 80 classically trained dancers recruited from Russian institutions including the Bolshoi, Kirov-Mariinsky, and Stanislavsky ballet traditions, performing at venues such as Constitution Hall and Carnegie Hall.
Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Talmi Entertainment renamed its flagship touring production NUTCRACKER! Magic of Christmas Ballet in solidarity with Ukraine, and the show has since appeared on ticketing platforms under names including The Former Moscow Ballet, distancing the brand from the Moscow name while retaining its dancers and choreographic lineage.
Recent tours, including a 30th-anniversary edition, have featured dancers from Ukraine alongside the production's Russian-trained performers, continuing an annual holiday circuit of Nutcracker performances across North American theaters.
