the north
The North are an indie band from Leeds, England, formed in February 2025 by singer and guitarist Billy Memphis, who moved to the city from Scarborough at sixteen and assembled the group by drawing on young talent from the local music scene. The lineup is completed by drummer Sian Keates, guitarist Kobi Griggs and bassist Mecca Boylan.

About the north
Despite forming only recently, the band built a following through live performances marked by what has been described as a heart-on-sleeve approach and fierce authenticity, gaining a reputation as one of the more talked-about new acts in the UK guitar scene while staying largely uninterested in industry hype.
The North signed to Communion Records, the label behind Wunderhorse and Catfish and the Bottlemen, and released an EP produced by Kev Jones, who also worked on Wunderhorse's album Cub. The band has performed at UK festivals including Truck Festival, Deer Shed Festival, Kendal Calling, Reading Festival and Leeds Festival, and continues to build its catalogue around driving, guitar-led indie songwriting.
