About The Stylistics
Working extensively with producer and songwriter Thom Bell, the group became one of the defining acts of the Philadelphia soul sound, specializing in lush, ballad-driven arrangements. During the early 1970s they scored twelve consecutive top-ten hits on the Billboard R&B chart, including "You Are Everything," "Betcha by Golly, Wow," "Break Up to Make Up," and "You Make Me Feel Brand New," which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974. The group earned five gold singles and three gold albums in the United States.
The Stylistics found particular and lasting success in the United Kingdom and continental Europe, where "Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)" reached No. 1 on the UK singles chart in 1975, cementing their popularity there even as their commercial fortunes cooled in the US later in the decade.
As of the mid-2020s, original members Airrion Love and Herb Murrell continue to perform as the Stylistics alongside Jason Sharp, while Russell Thompkins Jr. leads a separate touring act billed as the New Stylistics.
