About UK Foo Fighters (Tribute to Foo Fighters)
The group grew out of an earlier covers band called Speedsta, active from 2004 to 2007, which played material by Nirvana, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Stereophonics. Their Foo Fighters covers proved the most popular with audiences, leading the members to transition into a dedicated tribute act. The current lineup includes Jay Apperley (vocals, guitar), Ollie Button (drums, vocals), Hurricane Henderson (guitar, vocals), Ricky Collins (guitar), James Wade (piano, accordion) and Joseph Phipps-Pearson (bass).
The band drew direct endorsement from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who invited Apperley on stage to perform "White Limo" with him in Brighton, and were the subject of a BBC documentary, UK Foo Fighters: My Hero. They have played benefit shows, been featured in BBC coverage of Glastonbury Festival, opened the UCI Road World Championships, recorded a session at BBC Maida Vale Studios and released a documentary filmed at Abbey Road Studios and The Cavern Club.
Coverage of the band has appeared in Rolling Stone, NME, Gigwise and BBC Music, reflecting a level of recognition unusual for a tribute act.
