This conference explores the evolving relationship between artists and nature, from imitation to active engagement. Attendees will journey through three key approaches: creating *after* nature by drawing inspiration from its forms and colors; creating *with and within* nature, using it as material or space; and finally, making common cause with nature, questioning contemporary artistic practices that seek to reconnect with the living world.
The talk, led by art historian Eric Parmentier, offers an accessible and sensitive look at these different approaches, weaving together artworks, artist practices, and current issues. The one-hour presentation is followed by a 30-minute Q&A session, providing an opportunity for deeper discussion on how art can help us renew our bond with the natural world.
