Lukas Dana - RING

RING is a duet performance by Lukas Dana and Erwan Tarlet that explores the dynamics of male domination through the lens of boxing. The piece borrows the rhythm and codes of boxing matches, with three-minute rounds that unfold as a series of offbeat, sometimes grotesque variations on the ambiguous violence that binds athletes in the ring. The choreography gradually takes on a more dreamlike quality, leaving the audience uncertain how to react—both complicit and voyeuristic in a show that disturbs as much as it fascinates.

Drawing from his experiences on the dancefloors of techno clubs and the rings of boxing gyms, Lukas Dana has observed and experienced the stereotypes surrounding male bodies when they touch and collide. By revealing the homoerotic tension that permeates combat sports, the performance questions the ambivalence of highly regulated violence and its meaning outside the ring. The show takes place at CENTQUATRE-PARIS, a vibrant cultural space in the 19th arrondissement known for its diverse programming.
