Le Paris des Protestants - Visite Guidée

This guided walking tour retraces the tragic events of the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre, when thousands of Protestants were killed in Paris on the night of August 23-24, 1572. Led by historian Sylvain, the walk explores key locations tied to the Reformation, from the cultural hub of Saint-Germain-des-Prés to the "Little Geneva" district once frequented by John Calvin.

Participants will learn about major figures such as Bernard Palissy, Ambroise Paré, and Admiral de Coligny, and visit sites including the church of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, where bells signaled the start of the massacre, and the Louvre, associated with Henri IV and Queen Margot. The tour concludes at the Oratoire du Louvre temple.

The walk also covers the early Protestant martyrs—printers accused of heresy—and the house where the first Protestant baptism took place. It's a deep dive into a pivotal chapter of French religious history, offering insight into the rites, traditions, and intolerance of the era.
