PIF International Puppet Theatre Festival 2026

For seven days each September, Zagreb transforms into a global hub for puppet theatre as PIF brings together companies from across Europe and beyond. The 59th edition presents a rich competition program alongside free outdoor shows, workshops, and a children's art exhibition. From intimate, wordless pieces to grand mythological tales, the festival showcases the full range of puppetry arts.

Audiences can expect a vibrant mix of performances suited for both children and adults, with many shows using non-verbal language that transcends borders. Highlights include the opening performance by France's Deraïdenz, the playful "Loops and Hoops" from the Czech Republic, and traditional Pulcinella shows by Gianluca Di Matteo. Beyond the theatre halls, the festival spills into public spaces with the Pifko's Parade and free performances at Zrinjevac Music Pavilion, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.

Accompanying the main program are puppetry workshops for educators and seniors, as well as the exhibition "Puppet, Mask… PIF", featuring works from an international children's art competition. The festival culminates in an awards ceremony celebrating the best in contemporary puppet theatre, reaffirming PIF's role as a key event on the European cultural calendar.
