About Croatia
Croatia's Adriatic coast is a run of walled medieval towns, pine-covered islands and improbably clear water, with Dubrovnik's Old City and Split's Diocletian's Palace giving the coastline a historic backbone rarely found alongside such good beaches. Inland, Zagreb and the Plitvice Lakes offer a cooler, greener contrast to the coast's summer crush. Peak season brings heavy cruise-ship and Game of Thrones-tourist crowds to Dubrovnik especially, so shoulder-season visits reward with the same scenery and thinner queues. It suits travellers who want coastal Mediterranean scenery with genuine historic weight, not just beach time.

Discover Croatia
Croatia strings more than a thousand islands along a crystal-clear Adriatic, anchored by walled stone cities — Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar — and a green, lake-filled interior. Summers are long and the coast is made for sailing, swimming and island-hopping between historic ports and beach clubs.
Inland, café-culture Zagreb and the waterfalls of Plitvice show a different country, while Istria in the northwest brings Roman ruins, truffles and wine. Dalmatia is the classic coast; the islands of Hvar and Brač bring the summer party.
Top places in Croatia
- Dubrovnik — The walled “Pearl of the Adriatic” — city walls, marble streets and island trips.
- Split & Diocletian’s Palace — A living Roman palace, the Riva promenade and ferries to Hvar and Brač.
- Plitvice Lakes — Terraced turquoise lakes and waterfalls — Croatia’s natural showpiece.
- Zagreb — Austro-Hungarian capital: café terraces, museums and a famous Advent market.
- Zadar & the Kornati — Sea Organ sunsets and the gateway to a national-park archipelago.
